This fine example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture was built in 1893 by Mr. W.W. Hite of the Louisville and  Evansville Mail Company, and by 1899 became the home of distiller philanthropist Bernard Bernheim whose many charities included the Louisville Park System and the donation along with his brother Isaac of numerous statues and monuments including Louisville's Jefferson Memorial and the bronze sculptures of Kentuckians Henry Clay and Ephraim McDowell in the The National Statuary Hall of the United States Capitol.  Bernard Bernheim lived in this house until he passed away in 1925.

The mansion contains over 8,000 square feet of exotic woods and interesting woodwork.  This home is built of stone and its main exterior feature is a stunning triple archway entry.  The interior centers around a curved stairwell crowned with stained glass windows.

The mansion can accommodate up to seven couples in its rooms and suites, with amenities including satellite television and whirlpool (subject to availability), not to mention the timeless beauty of a fabulously restored historic home.  Seated in the heart of Old Louisville, the mansion is within walking distance of St. James Court and Central Park and the University of Louisville, and is close to downtown Louisville with its exciting night life, the riverfront, Churchill Downs, and the airport.
