University of Louisville freshman center Gorgui Dieng has been cleared by the NCAA, allowing him to begin practicing with the Cardinals immediately.

The NCAA has overturned the earlier decision that ruled Dieng ineligible because of an academic issue. Dieng is from Senegal and had spent last year at Huntington Prep in West Virgina.
Coach Rick Pitino had asked the school to appeal the decision and said the issue centered on transcript problems. Pitino said Dieng is an excellent student who speaks five languages.

Dieng averaged 15.4 points and 12.6 rebounds along with 7.2 blocked shots last season for Huntington Prep. He was ranked 44th in the nation by Rivals.com. His presence will give an immediate boost to Louisvilles thin front court.
